GE Global Research Europe opened in 2004 and employs about 250 employees from more than 40 countries. The research centre of GE (GEGRC) in Garching is located on campus of the TUM. The Diagnostics and Biomedical Technologies Lab – Europe (DBT-Europe) focuses on the development of high end applications with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Ultrasound (US), Computer Tomography (CT) and X-Ray. Our scientists work on the understanding of underlying principles and improvement of applications mainly for clinical use in diagnostic imaging. The activities at DBT-Europe are benefitting from intensive internal partnerships e.g. with our colleagues from the other GE Global Research groups in Bangalore, Niskayuna or Shanghai, or with our counterparts at GE Healthcare. External collaborations with academic partners are of equivalent importance, and help to align technical developments with clinical needs.
The labs of DBT-Europe are equipped with an experimental 3T MR-system in-house and a jointly used clinically certified 3T MR-system located on the premises of the TUM (IMETUM). It also houses an X-ray lab consisting of an X-ray shielding certified for 150 KVp, a GE ID 3003 X-ray source with three different targets (W, Ag and Mo); two imaging detectors (GE DXR500 mammography flat panel and a CdTe imaging camera from Ajat); one set of X-ray phase contrast grating designed for 25 keV mean energy and a HyperSense® DNP Polarizer.
